Jeffrey A. Conrad, CFA, President and Founder
Jeff is responsible for the formation and direction of AgIS Capital. He previously founded and guided the Hancock Agricultural Investment Group (HAIG) for over 20 years, serving as president of the firm and overseeing all investment and ground-level management operations associated with its $1.5 billion global farmland portfolio. Jeff also served on the board and investment committee of HAIG's parent, the Hancock Natural Resource Group and on the boards of several other investment firms. He also co-chaired the development of the NCREIF Farmland Index and has been a widely-recognized thought-leader on agricultural investing for more than 20 years. He serves on the Dean's Advisory Council of the Cornell University College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Jeff holds a BS in Agricultural Business Management with honors from the Pennsylvania State University, a MS in Agricultural Economics with a concentration in finance from Cornell University and is a CFA charter holder. Jeff is a widely recognized expert on agricultural investing and his opinions and views has been captured in many publications including Barron's, the Financial Times, Institutional Investor, the New York Times, Pensions & Investments, Los Angeles Times and the Wall Street Journal. He has also been featured on BBC, CNBC, TV Tokyo and Bloomberg News.
Kenneth L. Warlick, AAC, Chief Investment Officer
Ken is responsible for acquisitions and investment operations for AgIS Capital. He previously served as Vice President of Acquisitions for the Hancock Agricultural Investment Group (HAIG) where he spent six years sourcing, analyzing and executing global transaction opportunities. Prior to joining HAIG, Ken held senior executive positions with several prominent agribusiness lenders, including the John Hancock Bond and Corporate Finance Group and CoBank. Ken is uniquely qualified for this position, as he has worked more than 25 years in numerous segments of both production agriculture and agribusinesses, with emphasis on both global and best-in-class operations. During his career, Ken has executed agricultural and agribusiness transactions that were collectively valued at more than five billion dollars. He earned a BS in Agricultural Economics and an MA in Agribusiness from Texas A&M University. He also completed executive programs with the Harvard Agribusiness School and the Southern Methodist University Graduate School of Banking. Ken is a member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Appraisers and has earned the Accredited Agricultural Consultant designation.
Carolyn M. Bailey, Chief Financial Officer
Carolyn is responsible for financial and client reporting, compliance and corporate services for AgIS Capital. She previously served for more than a decade as Vice President of financial accounting and client reporting for the Hancock Agricultural Investment Group (HAIG). In that capacity she was responsible for all financial and client reporting for the company, which had $1.5 billion in assets under management. She also sat on the boards of various investment companies. Earlier in her career, Carolyn spent 16 years with State Street Corporation holding various positions of increasing responsibility in both the United States and Australia. Carolyn earned both a BS in Accounting and an MS in Accountancy from Bentley University.
Dan Eccles, Vice President of Finance
Dan is responsible for financial and client reporting for AgIS Capital. Before joining AgIS, he was a director at Breakaway Ventures where he oversaw the accounting, finance and investor relation functions. Dan started his career at PwC in its Investment Management practice with a focus on private equity, venture capital and hedge funds. Following PwC, Dan spent time at Eaton Vance and Bain Capital in their private equity and venture capital groups. Additionally, Dan spent five years at Hancock Agricultural Investment Group (HAIG) as the Controller and Principal Accounting Officer where is was responsible for the financial and client reporting of the company in both the US and Australia.
Cody P. Dahl, Ph.D., Vice President of Acquisitions and Investment Strategy
Cody is responsible for economic research and assists with acquisitions and investment operations for AgIS Capital. He previously served as Senior Agricultural Economist for the Hancock Agriculture Investment Group. In that role, Dr. Dahl headed up the research function and was charged with identifying investment opportunities and developing risk mitigating strategies for institutional investors in the farmland market. Cody earned a B.S. in Agribusiness, Farm and Financial Management from the University of Illinois, and went on to the University of Florida where he received an M.S. and Ph.D. in Food and Resource Economics.
Kellen M. West, CFA, Vice President of Portfolio Management
Kellen serves as Vice President of portfolio management for AgIS Capital. He has several years of investment analysis experience within both the agricultural and real estate sectors. Kellen previously worked at John Hancock Asset Management as a fixed income analyst. In that role he was the lead analyst for three sectors including REITs. He also served as an investment analyst with the Hancock Agricultural Investment Group (HAIG). Kellen graduated summa cum laude with a BSBA degree from Boston University and is a CFA charter holder.
Stephen A. Kenney, Vice President of Business Development
Stephen is responsible for business development activities and outreach throughout the US and international marketplace working directly with institutional investors and consultants. He previously served as an Associate Director and Portfolio Manager for the Hancock Natural Resource Group. In that role, Stephen covered both the US and international marketplace working directly with institutional investors and consultants on their growing interest in the agricultural investment asset class and worked directly with clients on their farmland portfolios. He is a member and past president of the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries (NCREIF) Farmland Index. Stephen earned a B.S. in Finance from Iowa State University and a Masters in Finance from Brandeis University. He continues to be involved in the family farming operation in Iowa.
Chad Drake, Controller
Chad is responsible for directing and managing a variety of internal and client accounting functions, including investment and tax reporting. He previously served as Accounting Manager with the Hancock Natural Resource Group, a unit of Manulife Financial. In that capacity his responsibilities primarily focused on tax compliance and reporting for the firm's timberland and agricultural investment teams. This included extensive involvement in client reporting activities and REIT compliance reporting. He also handled the firm's quarterly and annual reporting responsibilities with NCREIF (National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries), which independently tracks and reports the performance of institutional real estate assets. Chad began his career with Deloitte Tax LLP in Boston, where he spent three years in various tax-related roles. Among other things, his work focused on leading engagement teams that were responsible for managing client relationships; preparing, reviewing and approving state and federal returns for clients organized under various legal structures (C-corps, S-corps, partnerships and REITs); and, training, mentoring and on-boarding new members of the Deloitte team. Chad is a graduate of Bentley University, where he earned both a BS in Corporate Finance and Accounting and a MST (Master's) in Taxation.
Garrett Grasmick, Acquisitions Officer
Garrett devotes his time to acquisition activates for AgIS Capital. He formerly served as an Operations Analyst with oversight responsibilities of the growing investment portfolio. Prior to joining AgIS Capital, he served as Operations and Sales Analyst for Bland Farms located in Glennville, Georgia, the largest grower, packer and shipper of sweet onions in the United States. In that role, he monitored operations costs and capital expenditures, completed sales forecasts and generated daily management and productivity reports. Prior to joining Bland, Garrett also acquired several years of direct farm management experience on his family's Colorado farm operation, where he oversaw livestock raising (cattle, goats, hogs and sheep) and row crops (corn, wheat, onions and various types of produce). Garrett holds two degrees from Texas Tech University − a BA in Agricultural and Applied Economics and a MA in Agribusiness.
Jeff Hillberg, Vice President of Operations
Jeff is responsible for property management for AgIS Capital. He previously served as chief financial officer of Hancock Farmland Services, Inc., which was previously known as Farmland Management Services. In that role, Jeff directed the operation of investment properties, marketed crops, sourced farmland acquisitions, managed due diligence processes, developed risk management policies and procedures and oversaw the preparation of financial statements. He earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a M.S. in Finance from Indiana University. Jeff is a member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers.
Rod Scheaffer, Head of Viticulture Operations
Rod is responsible for the management of the AgIS vineyard assets. He is based in California and previously worked for RH Phillips, where he served as Vineyard Director Valley in charge of 4,400 acres of vineyards and vineyard developments. Prior to RH Phillips, Rod spent time working at Gallo Vineyards and Beckstoffer Vineyards. During his career, he has developed nearly 3,000 acres of vineyards in California. Rod holds BA in Economics and BS in Horticultural Plant Science from Colorado State University.
Danielle Harris, Operations Analyst
Danielle dedicates her time to property management for AgIS Capital. She previously served as a Transaction Manager for Hancock Agricultural Investment Group. In that role, Danielle was responsible for farmland dispositions and assisted in farmland acquisitions. Prior to that, she served as an Operations Manager for Hancock Farmland Services where she was responsible for property budgeting, management of leased permanent crop assets, and oversight of general real estate matters. She earned a BSBA in Accounting and Finance from Northeastern University and is pursuing a MBA from Boston College.
Brent Gloy, PhD, AgIS Capital Advisor
Brent brings vast, global experience in the agricultural sector to AgIS Capital as an Advisor. He currently holds several academic leadership posts at Purdue University, serving as Director of the Center for Commercial Agriculture, Professor of Agricultural Economics and has served as the Associate Director of the Center for Food and Agricultural Business. Before joining the faculty at Purdue, Brent was an associate Professor at Cornell University. He received his Master's degree and doctorate in Agricultural Economics at Purdue and continues to be involved with his family farm in Southwestern Nebraska.
John DeCiccio, AgIS Capital Advisor
John brings extensive business, investment management and corporate governance experience to AgIS Capital as an Advisor. He formerly served as the Chief Investment Officer of John Hancock Financial Services, Chairman of the $2.5 billion John Hancock Pension Board and in many other executive leadership and investment strategy roles at John Hancock. In addition, he served on the Board of the Hancock Natural Resource Group for a number of years. John is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross.
Scott C. Sacco, AgIS Capital Strategic Marketing Partner
Scott brings more than 20 years of experience in marketing and business strategy to AgIS Capital, serving as an external service provider and strategic partner. He currently heads a natural resource-focused marketing consultancy called Environs Strategies, LLC. Scott previously was a founding principal and vice president of business operations and marketing with Forest Systems, LLC, an independently-owned institutional forest investment firm with AUM of $815 million. The company was acquired by a competitor in late 2007. Earlier in his career, Scott oversaw planning and marketing at the Hancock Timber Resource Group (HTRG) and also helped John Hancock launch the Hancock Agricultural Investment Group (HAIG). Scott graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science and he holds a master's degree in history from Harvard University.
